Oh the Humanity

This is quite possibly the most extraordinary musical performance of all time...

I'm sorry, did you say "musical"? Shatner was guilty of this sort of transgression several times. I remember hearing a recording of him doing "Strawberry Fields". Bee-zar.

I think this one is the winner for me for a few reasons:

1. You get to see it as well as hear it.

2. It obviously took some planning and coordination to get the three Shatners in sync. It's not like those embarrasing impromptu national anthem performances where somebody just loses it.

3. He's working so hard at it. The earnest facial expressions and "acting" he's putting into it.

4. The hilarity of some of the lines and moments. "I'm gonna be *high*..." with his faux joint and trippy sound effects, the scared "oh no, oh no!" moment, and the drunken, loose tie dancing Shatner are just too much.

I don't know who kept letting him "sing." Somebody with a twisted sense of humor, I'd have to think. Or somebody high as a kite.

I have a love of Shatner from the the old Star Trek T.V. show, and I think that nostalgia lets him get away with things that I would think were stupid if I saw other people do it. You have to wonder if he's serious or joking though...
