How dumb is your right foot?
Sit in a chair. Pick up your right foot. Now start rotating your foot at the ankle, in a clockwise direction.
Ok, while doing that, draw a number 6 in the air with your right hand.
Your foot involuntarily changed direction, didn't it?
Weird. Happens every time.
Maybe we shouldn't rely on that appendage to control a ton or two of metal hurtling down the road, eh?

Ok, that's just freaky! It's fun to really slow down the drawing of the 6 to see where exactly the foot changes direction. It's always in the same place for me.
I sat here and did this about 50 times. I found that if I draw the 6 with my left hand and concentrate REAL HARD I can keep my right foot doing it's own thing. Right and right, though? No way.
That is SOOOO weird!
(if i really slow down the drawing of the 6, i can keep my foot going clockwise)
i think your point is a good one, though :)

I've seen that in an e-mail before... Still amazes me though.
As far as the driving part -- I'm hoping no one would be making circles with their ankle at the time! At least movement of our ankle doesn't make our wrist change directions! That would be bad (Bad BAD)!
Interestingly, when my right leg is crossed over the left, I can maintain the circle direction when I draw the 6... Hmmm...
Hmm? Bizarre. Good thing I don't draw sixes while I'm driving ;).
My ADD abilities have caused me to over ride this problem. HAHAHAHAHAHA my brain is always confused! Yippy
PS, I have no problems drawing a 6 and making my foot go in circles. Perhaps it's the Deslexia
Very interesting. I am always amazed to learn about the things our brains do automatically.
I don't think I will be drawing sixes while driving any more. Gotta stop doing that! :-)
